What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a safe and effective approach that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access the subconscious mind. In this calm, relaxed state, it becomes easier to understand how your thoughts, beliefs and emotions influence the way you experience your life.
When the mind is relaxed in this way, it becomes more open to positive suggestions and new perspectives. This allows unhelpful patterns, habits and automatic responses to be gently reshaped.
In my work, hypnotherapy is combined with mind coaching and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques. This integrated approach supports both the conscious and subconscious mind, helping you create meaningful and lasting change while developing practical tools you can use in everyday life.
Hypnosis itself is a natural state of relaxed focus, similar to daydreaming, being absorbed in a book, or the moments just before falling asleep. Most people remain aware of everything that is said during the session and remember it afterwards.
You are always in control during hypnotherapy, and can’t be made to do or say anything against your will, and you can come out of the relaxed state at any time. The process simply helps your mind become more receptive to positive change, allowing you to move forward with greater clarity, confidence and a deeper sense of peace and wellbeing.
Hypnotherapy FAQs
No. Hypnotherapy is not mind control. You are always aware, in control, and able to stop at any time. A hypnotherapist cannot make you do or say anything against your values or your will.
Hypnosis is simply a focused, relaxed state where the mind becomes more receptive to positive change, similar to being deeply absorbed in a book or daydream. The process works by helping you retrain unhelpful subconscious patterns, not by controlling your mind.
It’s completely normal to wonder about this. Everyone experiences hypnosis in their own way. Some people sink into deep relaxation, while others remain aware and present throughout. There is no right or wrong experience.
You don’t need to feel deeply “under” for it to be beneficial. Even in a lighter, more aware state, your mind can still receive what it needs and gentle change can unfold.
Yes, especially if you’re curious and want to experience what it feels like. However, hypnotherapy is not usually a quick fix.
Lasting change tends to happen gradually. It develops through gentle repetition, allowing your mind to learn, settle, and build on progress over time. Most people find that consistency is what truly creates meaningful change.
Absolutely. This approach is grounded in neuroscience, there’s no “magic” required.
Hypnotherapy works by helping retrain the subconscious mind and shift automatic responses. Even if you feel unsure or sceptical at first, the process can still be effective.
You don’t have to choose just one area to work on. I use a blend of specific hypnotherapy techniques alongside nervous system regulation and grounding methods.
Rather than focusing on challenges in isolation, we work with both the subconscious mind and the nervous system together. When one area begins to improve, it often creates positive changes in others as well.
